Training for elected Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) 

HSRs are elected by their fellow employees to represent the workers on health and safety issues.

What is a HSR?

HSRs are elected by work groups to represent workers in Work Health and Safety (WHS) matters. The primary role of a HSR is to represent workers on health and safety through ongoing consultation and cooperation between the workers of a work group and the employer.

Why HSR training is important

It’s important that HSRs understand their role and how, where and when to use their legal powers. To help develop the skills needed to effectively represent workers, HSRs are entitled to attend approved HSR training and should do so as soon as possible after being elected. 

HSRs are entitled to 10 days of training throughout their elected three year period. Providing ongoing training for HSRs ensures they can fulfil their obligation with confidence. 

Registering as a HSR

Prior to attending training, HSRs must be registered with Safework SA and have an HSR ID. Safework SA require that all Health and Safety Representatives are registered prior to completing HSR Year 1 training. 

Providing your HSRID to the South Australian Business Chamber is required to inform Safework SA about your successful completion of the training.
