The South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) has reported a record spend of $8.3 billion by visitors to SA in 2022.

This beats pre-COVID records of $8.1 billion, a number that wasn’t expected to be surpassed until December 2023.

Minister for Tourism, Zoe Bettison told SATC that it is an extraordinary achievement for Tourism in South Australia.

These are results that every tourism business across our state can be proud of – and every South Australian.

Thanks to our world-class offerings, incredible city and diverse regions, our spectacular calendar of events, and the recovery of our airline and cruise sectors, South Australia is a destination of choice for visitors – and our economy is reaping the rewards”, said Minister Bettison.

The announcement comes ahead of the AFL Gather Round this weekend, another huge drawcard for South Australian Tourism.

Premier Peter Malinauskas has told the media more than a third of the 151,000 tickets sold to Gather Round events have gone to people interstate and overseas.

This is a massive opportunity for South Australia to show the rest of the country all it has to offer”, said the Premier.

South Australia’s huge calendar of landmark events is expected to inject around $400 million into the local economy this year.
