The South Australian Business Chamber, South Australia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry has renewed calls for the State Government to consider measures providing relief for South Australian businesses in today’s budget.

Following the limited support for businesses in the Federal Budget, today’s announcements need to provide practical and innovative benefits for SA businesses.

While some businesses have done well off the back of major events this year, many are facing significant challenges in complicated economic circumstances.

Escalating inflation, soaring interest rates, unmanageable energy costs, labour shortages, and wage increases are all factors contributing to an unfavourable business environment.

The South Australian Business Chamber wants to see South Australia continue to build on its profile as a great place to do business, and through today’s budget, the government has the power to make that possible.

Earlier this year, the South Australian Business Chamber presented a comprehensive set of budget recommendations to the state government, intended to bolster business confidence in South Australia.

Our recommendations focused on critical areas such as payroll tax, energy efficiency, AUKUS preparation, migration, skills development, workplace health and safety, and the global promotion of South Australia.

The South Australian Business Chamber has recognised the government has cost pressures of its own following a period of pandemic recovery and natural disaster support in South Australia. On that basis, we have proposed recommendations providing maximum impact for SA businesses, while minimising the cost to the State Government.

As early budget leaks have predominantly addressed issues surrounding health, housing, police, child protection, education, and increased investment in the new Adelaide aquatic centre, the South Australian Business Chamber eagerly awaits the announcement of measures specifically benefiting local businesses.
