From July 2023, SafeWork SA inspectors will be visiting automotive workshops and continuing its campaign inspecting school and childcare playgrounds.

Audits will be conducted on automotive workshops throughout the state, auditing the safety control measures in place for vehicle hoists and pressure vessels to protect workers from the risk of injury. If non-compliance identified during the audit cannot be remedied while the inspector is on-site, a statutory notice will be issued.

SafeWork SA is also conducting Stage 2 of a proactive compliance campaign regarding playgrounds for a period of six months. School playgrounds in the metropolitan and regional areas will be audited from July to December 2023. Please note that the audits conducted in the regional areas will focus on play equipment in schools, childcare centres and special schools, whereas the metropolitan focus will be on play equipment in schools.

The campaign will inspect and review the systems in relation to the safety of playgrounds at childcare centres and schools. Schools and childcare centres have been randomly selected and Inspectors will contact individual schools and childcare centres to make arrangements to undertake the audits.

Make sure you are prepared. We recognise developing, reviewing, and revising your WHS management system can be daunting and time-consuming for any business, particularly those who do not have dedicated internal WHS or HR personnel and even more so where multiple jurisdictions are involved.

The South Australian Business Chamber’s work health and safety (WHS) experts can assist you to develop or update your systems and ensure compliance and minimise risk.

For WHS information, advice, or assistance, please call the South Australian Business Chamber on 8300 0000 (select option 1) or contact us online here and one of our WHS experts will be in touch.
