ReturnToWorkSA recently announced that the average premium rate will be maintained at 1.85% for 2024 – 25.
These premiums, paid by businesses as a proportion of wages, provide injury insurance for workers in South Australia. The ReturnToWorkSA scheme offers financial support to workers injured in work-related incidents, covering their wages and medical treatment.
Although the average rate will remain unchanged, actual premiums paid by businesses will vary depending on the industry, total wages paid, and other individual employer factors.
While the South Australian Business Chamber would of course like to see the rate reduced, it staying stable at 1.85% is a relief in the current economic climate.
Two years ago the Chamber’s Policy & Advocacy Team ran a month-long campaign to keep these premiums down, amidst fears they would sky-rocket to 2.2% as a consequence of Supreme Court of SA’s decision in the Summerfield vs ReturnToWorkSA case in March 2021.
The premiums ultimately increased by only 0.5% from 2022 – 23 and we are pleased they will remain flat for at least another year.
