Nature-based tourism products and experiences across South Australia could receive a significant financial boost as the state government announces the opening of the next round of the Experience Nature Tourism Fund.
This $2 million fund supports tourism businesses across the regions, allowing them to bring their nature-based tourism ideas to life.
Eligible applicants — including Sole Traders, Partnerships, Companies and Trusts, Not-For-Profits, and Community and Progress Associations — can apply for grants ranging from $10,000 to $50,000. These grants aim to develop new and improved nature-based tourism products and experiences in or near national parks, reserves, wilderness protection areas, or marine parks.
According to the South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC), supported initiatives could include the purchase of equipment for activities such as snorkelling, kayaking, cultural tours, wildlife viewing, and other pop-up experiences like camping in national parks.
On land adjacent to parks, the fund could support the creation or refurbishment of off-grid accommodations, including tiny homes, cabins, and glamping tents, as well as infrastructure projects like toilets and solar power generation (not as standalone projects).
The funding program spans four years, with up to $500,000 available each year. To date, 33 nature tourism products and experiences have been supported across South Australia, enabling operators to attract more domestic and international visitors while showcasing the state’s natural landscapes.
Applications are now open and will close on Friday, 16 August. The Experience Nature Tourism Fund is administered by the SATC in partnership with the Department for Environment & Water and the South Australian Government Financing Authority.
