South Australian Minister for Industrial Relations and Public Sector Kyam Maher has specified that shops situated in the Greater Adelaide Shopping District may open until midnight, on selected dates leading up to Christmas this year.

Shopkeepers may open until midnight on the following dates

  • Thursday 14 December 2023
  • Thursday 21 December 2023
  • Friday 22 December 2023

According to the Shop Trading Hours Act 1977, this exemption to the usual arrangements is applicable to shops with a greater floor area than 200 square meters, and supermarkets with more than 400 square meters of floor area.

Shops with less than 200 square metres of floor area and grocery stores with less than 400 square metres of floor area fall under an exemption to the Shop Trading Hours Act 1977 and can trade whenever they want, including on public holidays.
