The Commonwealth Government has established a new information standard under the Australian Consumer Law for seafood sold in hospitality settings, effective from 1 July 2026.

The labelling will use the AIM’ model, categorising seafood as Australian (‘A’), imported (‘I’), or mixed (‘M’) origin.

Hospitality businesses must label seafood on menus and signage to ensure compliance with the new standard.

Transition Period and Support

A transition period allows businesses time to adapt to the new requirements.

Additional guidance materials are available to assist in understanding and implementing the AIM model in the links below.

Support Amidst Algal Bloom

The South Australian Government is actively supporting the seafood and hospitality industries affected by the algal bloom, including a $750,000 Buy SA Seafood campaign promoting local seafood safety.
