In South Australia, innovation often begins with practical thinking and a willingness to do things differently. For Wilco Technologies, that journey started in a farm shed on the Upper Eyre Peninsula.

Founded in 2006 by inventor and former underground miner Michael Williams, the concept for Wilco was first developed in 2005. Built on firsthand experience, the business was driven by a clear focus on improving safety and efficiency in resin installation. That thinking became the foundation of the Trajectaflex Resin Firing System, now used across underground mining operations.

While Wilco’s reach is now global, its foundations remain firmly in South Australia. The business is proudly Australian-owned and manufactured, with a strong commitment to supporting local industry through partnerships, supply chains and investment in local engineering capability. These relationships have enabled the company to grow while remaining agile and closely connected to its customers.

Wilco’s contribution extends beyond its own operations. The business actively supports both the mining sector and the broader South Australian community through sponsorships and local initiatives, reinforcing its connection to the industries and regions that have supported its growth.

A defining shift came in 2021. Following a major restructure, Wilco transitioned from outsourcing all engineering and supplying a smaller client base to bringing part of the manufacturing in-house and scaling operations. This marked a turning point for the business.

Since then, Wilco has tripled sales, expanded into export markets and strengthened its presence both locally and internationally. Alongside its core system, the business has broadened its offering to include the import of auger drill steels and the development of a new complementary system currently in prototype manufacture.

Despite this growth, Wilco remains a small and hands-on business, led by a husband and wife team. This approach allows the company to stay close to its customers and continue delivering practical, fit-for-purpose solutions in real operating conditions.

Wilco’s work has been recognised through industry awards and increasing demand across both local and international markets. As the company marks 20 years in operation, the focus remains on building on its South Australian foundations while continuing to deliver safe, efficient and innovative solutions to the global resources sector.
