Awrds

Our Business Advice Hotline provides lots of advice to employers on Awards, particularly regarding classification of employees and interpretation of Awards.

This is because Awards cover many working people and employers in Australia. Different awards apply to different industries and occupations.

Awards set out the minimum pay rates and conditions of employment, including:

  • penalty rates, overtime and casual rates
  • annual and other types of leave
  • hours of work
  • allowances.

It’s important that as employers you provide your employees with at least the minimum entitlements for wages and conditions of employment. These entitlements are most often found in Awards or Enterprise Agreements.

On 3 June 2024, the Minimum Wage Panel of the Fair Work Commission handed down its Annual Wage Review Decision. The Decision provides for an increase of 3.75% to the National Minimum Wage and to Modern Awards, effective from the first full pay period commencing on or after 1 July 2024.

If you haven’t already, it’s a good time to check in with our Business Advice Hotline to make sure you are paying your employees correctly or get advice on any other questions you may have about Award coverage for your employees.
