From 1 January 2026, new legislation in SA will require Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in specific government, commercial, and privately owned facilities, with penalties of up to $20,000 for non-compliance.
Owners of all in-scope non-Crown buildings and facilities are required to comply, including obligations relating to the installation of a prescribed number of AEDs, plus maintenance, registration and signage requirements.
Within two weeks after the installation of an AED, the owner of the building or facility in which the AED is installed must ensure the AED is registered via the South Australian AED Register, accessible via the SA Ambulance Website.
