Persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU’s) in South Australia will face hefty penalties for carrying out work that exposes a person to crystalline silica dust under laws proposed by the South Australian Greens.
The Work Health and Safety (Crystalline Silica Dust) Amendment Bill 2022 was introduced into the State Parliament on 15 June 2022 by Greens SA member Tammy Franks.
The Bill proposes an outright ban on work that exposes a person to crystalline silica dust, making the offence punishable by $300,000 in the case of individual PCBUs, and $1.5 million for bodies corporate.
The Bill can be accessed here.
We will continue to keep you informed of the progress of the Bill.
