Despite forecasts of grey skies and showers tomorrow, businesses across the state are rallying their staff to participate in Walk to Work Day,’ an initiative led by the Pedestrian Council of Australia.

This annual event encourages both employees and employers to incorporate regular walking into their daily routines as a preventative measure against type 2 diabetes.

With statistics from the 2022 National Health Survey revealing that four out of five Australians fail to meet the government’s physical activity guidelines, the initiative couldn’t be more timely.

Research consistently shows that individuals who walk before or during their workday tend to be healthier, more productive, and less likely to take sick days.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese highlighted the importance of the event, reminding Australians to get out there and get active.”

Getting involved is simple: just start walking. On Friday, September 6, make an effort to walk as much as possible to work.

If walking the entire distance isn’t feasible, consider using public transport and getting off a few stops earlier to walk the rest of the way, or take a brisk half-hour walk during your lunch break.
