In his first major move as the newly elected Leader of the South Australian Liberal Party, Vincent Tarzia MP today announced his Shadow Cabinet, signalling a fresh direction for the party.
Notable new additions include Mount Gambier-based Legislative Councillor Ben Hood and Member for Bragg Jack Batty, both of whom will take on significant roles.
Ben Hood will assume responsibility for the Infrastructure and Transport, Regional Roads, and Government Accountability portfolios.
Jack Batty MP will be tasked with overseeing Community Safety, Police, Correctional Services, Road Safety, and the Future Economy. Additionally, Batty has been appointed Manager of Opposition Business.
Acknowledging the pressing issue of the cost-of-living crisis, Mr Tarzia introduced a new shadow portfolio dedicated to addressing the matter.
“We know from our engagement across the community that the cost of living is having a significant impact on households and small businesses,” Mr Tarzia said in a statement.
Heidi Girolamo has been appointed as the Shadow Minister for Cost of Living, a newly created role, while retaining her responsibilities for Finance and Tax Reform.
Ashton Hurn MP will continue as Shadow Minister for Health upon her return from maternity leave later this year, with Mr Tarzia temporarily acting in the role.
Matt Cowdrey OAM has been assigned the Sports and Environment portfolios, and Sam Telfer will now oversee Treasury in addition to Local Government. Josh Teague will take on the Industrial Relations portfolio.
Deputy Leader of the Opposition, John Gardner, will assume the additional responsibility for Workforce and Population Strategy. Nicola Centofanti, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, will now also manage the Veterans Affairs portfolio.
