The South Australian Business Chamber is committed to supporting our members through challenging times. If your business has been financially impacted by the Whyalla Steelworks situation, there are government assistance programs that could help you stay afloat. But act quickly — applications close 30 May 2025.

Financial Assistance for Whyalla-Based Businesses

If your business is based in Whyalla and has been financially affected by the recent decline in local economic activity — or is owed money by OneSteel (Whyalla Steelworks) — you may be eligible for targeted government support.

Two financial assistance programs are currently available:

1. Business Creditor Assistance Scheme
South Australian businesses owed money by OneSteel Manufacturing Pty Ltd (Whyalla Steelworks) can apply for a grant covering the full amount of eligible debt, up to a maximum of $5 million.

2. Whyalla Small Local Business Support Grant
Whyalla-based small businesses that have experienced a significant downturn in revenue may be eligible for a $10,000 grant. This program supports those impacted by the broader economic effects of the steelworks’ administration.

These grants are designed to keep local businesses operating and maintain economic stability in the region.

Important: Applications close 30 May 2025.

To check your eligibility and apply, visit whyallasupport.sa.gov.au or contact Whyalla Regional Coordinator, John Chapman, for more information.
