Every year on 27 October we put the call out to all employers to ensure they SEND EVERY WORKER HOME SAFELY. Although we have claimed a single date to make this annual announcement, the commitment to safety can’t end there.
Whether its an ongoing commitment to training and awareness through SafeWorkmonth (also October) or part of a year-round régime for your workplace, we encourage you to be aware of safety risks and play your part in preventing workplace incidents.
The statistics are sad with a total of 149 workplace deaths recorded in 2020, a majority come from transport, agriculture, and construction industries. This is far more than just the individual lives lost and doesn’t consider the large number of injuries, some debilitating that occur. Its families shattered and its businesses closed and most importantly, in most circumstances it’s avoidable.
On October 27, spare a thought for the lives lost and ensure you’re putting initiatives in place that secure your workplace from potential tragedy.
