SafeWorkSA Compliance Campaign Nature Play And Playgrounds

The South Australian Business Chamber Today — Thursday 18 November, 2021

SafeWork SA is conducting a proactive compliance campaign regarding nature play and playgrounds
from mid-November 2021 to February 2022. In the metropolitan area school playgrounds will be inspected from February 2022.

The campaign will inspect and review the systems in relation to the safety of nature play and
playgrounds at public parks, national parks, child care centres and schools.

Nature play areas are springing up everywhere, and children love them. As awareness increases of the benefits of children’s contact with nature, many schools, and childcare centres, are embracing the idea of developing a nature play space.

SafeWork SA has advised that within the last three years, it has received over 150 notifications relating to playground or nature play incidents across South Australia. These incidents range from very minor (ie tripping, surface cuts etc) to more serious injuries (ie deep lacerations, broken bones etc).

If you need any further information or support please don’t hesitate to contact the South Australian Business Chamber on (08) 8300 0000.
