The South Australian Business Chamber would like to congratulate all the nominees, finalists and winners of the 25th SA Training Awards 2021. The Awards, conducted by the Department of Innovation and Skills with collaboration partners, the South Australian Business Chamber members, MEGT Australia and MAS National, celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of our best and brightest students, trainers, training providers, schools and employers. The Australian Training Awards are the peak national awards that showcase best practice in Vocational Education and Training. Winners from each state and territory have the opportunity to compete for a national award title and we wish all South Australian entrants the very best.
The awards were announced last Friday (27 August) and several the South Australian Business Chamber members won or were part of a winning team.
Training Provider of the Year — 2021 Winner is the South Australian Business Chamber member TAFE SA. TAFE SA is the state’s public training provider ensuring all South Australian students have access to quality education and skills training across a number of regional, rural, remote and metropolitan locations. TAFE SA is strengthening its partnerships with industry to work collaboratively in new and different ways.
The South Australian Business Chamber member PEER trained the Vocational Student of the Year Thomas Alexander who undertook a Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start). “Undertaking my Certificate II course through PEER was a turning point for me,” said Thomas. “It fuelled my passion for my chosen career path and has led to my electrical apprenticeship with PEER and my host employer, Ken Hall Plumbers.”
The South Australian Business Chamber member TAFE SA employs the VET Teacher Trainer of the Year Stuart Rimmington. Stuart took his first steps into Vocational Education and Training (VET), at 15-years-old in Western Australia learning cooking at TAFE. “Without VET, I wouldn’t be who I am today, and I wouldn’t be in a position to see change and to shape the future of our industry.”
Now a lecturer with TAFE SA, Stuart says he proudly promotes VET and the careers and opportunities it opens to participants by introducing the concept of lifelong learning.
Industry Collaboration Winner 2021 – the South Australian Business Chamber member Flinders University, BAE Systems Aust and the South Australian Business Chamber member TAFE SA collaborated to deliver the Diploma of Digital Technologies The program commenced in 2020 with a focus on shipbuilding workers and evolved in 2021 to upskill SME and teacher groups. From 2022, the intent is to expand the program nationally in a range of defence segments, additional SMEs and other industries.
The South Australian Business Chamber member and winner of Large Employer of the Year — SA Water is owned by the South Australian Government. SA Water is a major South Australian organisation employing more than 1500 people providing trusted water services to more than 1.7 million South Australian customers.
