Review Of Casual Employment Terms In Most Awards

The South Australian Business Chamber Today — Friday 1 October, 2021

Did you know that the Fair Work Commission (FWC) has been reviewing casual employment terms in most awards?

What’s changing

The Commission’s changes make sure that awards are consistent with the changes to casual employment under the Fair Work Act that commenced back in March 2021. The changes are different from award to award. Some examples of how awards have changed include:

  • adding the new definition of casual employment
  • referring to the new casual conversion provisions in the Fair Work Act, if the current award clauses aren’t as beneficial or operate differently
  • removing any requirements for employers to specify hours or likely hours for casual employees.

Need more information or help?

At this stage, the Commission has finalised its review of most awards. To find out if your award is affected, or if you need help with casual conversion or for one of our Workplace Specialists to review your Employment Contracts, call our Business Advice Hotline on (08) 8300 0000 (Members select option 1).
