It’s not too late if you are just now across this upcoming change in SA legislation. From 1 January 2026, new legislation in SA will require Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in specific government, commercial, and privately owned facilities, with penalties of up to $20,000 for non-compliance.

Owners of all in-scope non-Crown buildings and facilities must meet obligations relating to installation, maintenance, registration, and signage of AEDs. Within two weeks of installation, AEDs must be registered via the South Australian AED Register, accessible through the SA Ambulance website.

At the SA Business Chamber, we are partnered with St John Ambulance SA to ensure businesses have the right guidance and are fully equipped to meet both safety and legal compliance obligations.
