Earlier this week, the South Australian Business Chamber was proud to host the Multicultural Chamber of Commerce group networking evening.

The Multicultural Chamber is a collection of businesspeople managing small chambers of commerce in South Australia who represent international business interests.

Facilitated by the Hon Zoe Bettison MP, Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Tourism, the event highlighted the importance of collaboration between South Australia’s international business community.

Minister Bettison highlighted that bringing the multicultural chambers together was a commitment during Labor’s election campaign, intended to strengthen business ties in the state, collectively focused on opportunities in import and export markets.

Guests had the opportunity to network during the course of the evening and heard a special keynote presentation by Emma Terry, Chief Executive of the South Australian Tourism.

New SATC CEO outlines states’ tourism and economic outlook

Emma Terry joined South Australia’s Tourism Commission in January 2023 at the invitation of Minister Bettison.

A Tasmanian ex-pat, Emma headed up her home state’s marketing unit for Tourism Tasmania and notes the similarities between our two states, bringing insights and strategies from the iconic destination to SA.

During a comprehensive presentation to the multicultural chambers of commerce group on Tuesday night, Emma highlighted the return of tourism post-COVID is exceeding predictions, with spending performance $900k above the annual forecast in September 2022.

According to aviation data, it seems the tourism recovery is being dominated by domestic travellers, with seats back to 101% of pre-COVID levels, in comparison to international seats sitting at 86%.

The future of tourism is bright in South Australia with key events like AFL Gather Round, Live Golf and Adelaide Fringe driving the visitor economy and ongoing prosperity of our state.

Emma noted that cost of living pressures will dampen tourism demand, but early signs are yet to indicate that this has begun.
