“Most people would think the South Australian Business Chamber’s services are tailored towards small to medium enterprises, but I think they’d be surprised to learn that a large company like ourselves still taps into a lot of their resources,” says Sascha Detmold Cox, Group Executive General Manager at Detmold Group.
Global paper, board and packaging solutions provider, Detmold Group, is set to produce 145 million surgical masks for local health workers caring for those infected by COVID-19. The enormous feat will take place at the company’s Brompton factory resulting in a workforce expansion of 160 staff.
Mrs. Detmold Cox says the South Australian Business Chamber was instrumental in assisting Detmold’s Human Resources Department in transitioning their workforce to begin working from home. The organisation also utilised the Business Advice Hotline to gain support and guidance on workplace related issues, purchased PAYpacks to gain a better understanding of modern award obligations and utilised the South Australian Business Chamber’s export documentation services to ceritfy the place their goods are manufactured.
Production of the surgical masks will begin in May 2020 through to the end of the year however, Detmold expects to continue manufacturing medical supplies even after the pandemic settles and is hopeful that Federal and State Governments will establish a heightened focus on local manufacturing in the near future to strengthen the backbone of the Australian economy.
The company will continue to service its global customers, McDonald’s and KFC, as usual with company executive, Rodney Detmold, reinforcing the importance of local capability and the prestige of Australian manufactured goods.
