Despite the buzz around artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential to transform industries and work practices, early survey data indicates that many South Australian businesses are yet to adopt it in their operations.

Is the hype about AI justified, or are we seeing a similar situation to the early days of the internet, where widespread adoption took years to unfold?

Alternatively, is AI simply proving too challenging to navigate and implement?

Our September quarter Survey of Business Expectations seeks your input on the current use of AI in your business and your outlook for its impact on your industry.

Share your thoughts by completing the survey here.

Notably 17.8% of survey respondents so far remain uncertain about AI’s role in the future growth of their business and less than 5% have implemented a bespoke AI system for their operations.

In our March survey, just over a quarter of businesses had already implemented some form of AI and 45% of current respondents are still not using AI in their business at all.

Current comments in the live survey on how AI integration has benefited South Australian business:

  • We’ve realised efficiencies with some formerly manual tasks
  • By allowing the staff to do more skilled jobs and allow the mundane jobs to be completed in the background.
  • AI adds another layer of risk. Its information flow you cannot control and is stored elsewhere.
  • We are just testing the waters’ with AI at this time — too early to tell.
  • Has allowed us to do some minor programming that we may have outsourced in the past.
  • It’s a good base to start some tasks from but can’t replace human contact though.
