Find a tradie you trust’ is synonymous to the Australian experience, and as a master plumber of 20 years and now multi-trade business owner, Travis Guerin believes forming genuine connections is the reason for his success.

Travis is the director of Need Trade Services, a team of multi-trade specialists who deliver convenient and comprehensive corporate-focused facility services.

Whilst Travis is proud of his team’s expertise and service, he joined Tim Lavis on the ThirtyNiners podcast to discuss why these services are only made possible by having an overwhelming emphasis on creating and maintaining trusted partnerships.

We always work well with other businesses, because we build relationships with these people, we build real genuine connections.

And to be honest with you, we actually don’t work for people that we have don’t have genuine connections with”.

But what build’s these genuine connections? Trust? Loyalty? Effective communication?

Travis explains for him, it has always been simple; don’t be afraid to ask questions, because effective and honest conversations create trust and loyalty in all aspects of life.

I think you can always take learnings out of people, in all parts of your life, even someone that you buy your morning coffee from.

Just a passing simple question can lead into so many other things, whether that’s personal or professional development, I have always tried to build connections by asking a lot of questions – and to be honest that’s how I’ve learnt my biggest lessons”.

The sheer hunger to connect with people and learn, is inherently evident in Travis, and it is not hard to see where his desire to join the ThirtyNiners cohort derives from.

The ThirtyNiners is a group of forward-thinking business owners under the age of 40 in South Australia, motivated to drive real change in the State to ensure South Australia is the best place to do business.

Already, Travis has relished being in this group, as someone who doesn’t have a business mentor per say, he was extremely excited about the opportunity to collaborate and connect with fellow business owners, and says he is already reaping the benefits.

I don’t really have a mentor per say, so joining the ThirtyNiners was like an untapped resource that at any given time you can lean in to and ask questions.

All the time I ask them: does anyone know about this, or anyone know how to do this? And within 5 minutes you’ve got an answer, and that’s when you know you’ve got a really good crew around you.

We have each other’s back and I think there is real power in that”.
