Australia and South Korea have distinctively different disability legislations and policies, disability employment support systems, and directions towards sustainable development goals in disability employment. They have different cultural, social, and economic systems, infrastructure, and approaches to people with disability. The two countries stand on opposite sides of management direction for disability employment: Korea has a mandatory system, whereas Australia reinforces a voluntary system through the person-centred approach to disability support. However, both systems share the same goals of disability employment: to improve the socio-economic participation of people with disability and their quality of life. The different approaches have highlighted opportunities and barriers to developing support and services for disability employment. However, the two systems also face common challenges, such as a negative public perception and lack of understanding of disability, which significantly affect the low rate of disability employment. We should learn more about diverse approaches to disability employment to close the gaps.
