Global paper, board and packaging solutions provider, Detmold Group, is set to produce 145 million surgical masks for local health workers caring for those infected by COVID-19.
The enormous feat will take place at the company’s Brompton factory resulting in a workforce expansion of 160 staff.
Forty-five million masks will be reserved for SA Health with the remaining 100 million added to the national stockpile in preparation for a nation-wide surge in cases.
Premier Steven Marshall applauds company CEO, Alf Ianniello and Director, Sascha Detmold Cox, on the financially sound, yet altruistic deal, which allows for the creation of new jobs and specialist manufacturing capabilities unseen anywhere else in the nation.
The decision comes at a time where the Premier has been largely focused on retooling local businesses so the State can fend for itself should a global shortage ensure.
Production of surgical masks will begin in May 2020 through to the end of the year however, Detmold expects to continue manufacturing medical supplies even after the pandemic settles.
The company will continue to service its global customers, McDonald’s and KFC, as usual with company executive, Rodney Detmold, reinforcing the importance of local capability and the prestige of Australian manufactured goods.
This is yet another prime example of South Australia’s solid manufacturing base.
