Applications are now open for the small business grants for those significantly impacted by South Australia’s ongoing algal bloom crisis.
Eligible businesses can apply for financial support via the State Government’s $28 million response package, jointly funded with the Commonwealth. The package includes $10,000 Small Business Support Grants and, for the most severely affected fisheries and aquaculture licence holders, access to larger grants of up to $100,000.
While this support is a step in the right direction, the South Australian Business Chamber remains focused on ensuring operators in hospitality, accommodation, retail, tourism and supply chain businesses that have experienced knock-on effects yet fall outside the current eligibility criteria are not forgotten.
We continue to advocate directly with government and represent the broader business community through and the Harmful Algal Bloom Reference Group, co-chaired by the Deputy Premier and the Minister for Primary Industries. We will also closely monitor how support is rolled out in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, we encourage all South Australians to visit and support local businesses and help counter harmful misinformation — if seafood is available for sale, it’s been cleared and is safe to eat.
