Beginning as a small family business, BioLab Inc was founded by Mr Leon Bloom in the USA in 1955. Initially, BioLab manufactured cleaning agents and disinfectants for the poultry industry, but through researching microbiological and chemical processes, Leon soon realised the products could be used for other applications and industries. As early as 1962, Atlanta-based BioLab, developed BioGuard pool and spa maintenance chemicals. Leon also realised that the traditional one-cure-fits-all approach wasn’t enough, as consumers wanted a program that made their chemicals work together. They also wanted something easy to use and they wanted to make their pool sparkle. Because of this, the 3-step system that overcame many traditional pool care systems, was born.
By 1980, the family business had become the world’s leading manufacturer and marketer of pool and spa care chemicals. In 1983, Alex Chandler of BioLab Canada, led the push into South Africa and Australia with the BioGuard brand. Ten years later, in 1993, BioGuard also expanded into New Zealand.
Continuous development has led to BioLab providing an extensive range of pool and spa maintenance chemical products. BioGuard products are sold in over 500 stores across Australia and New Zealand, making us the largest retail network in pool and spa chemicals in Australasia.
