Breakfast XL

Wednesday, 20 October 2021

The South Australian Business Chamber is serving up valuable lessons and practical tips for thousands of South Australian business owners as part of Mental Health Awareness Month.

On Tuesday 26 October, this breakfast will be simultaneously held across South Australia and online as part of the South Australian Business Chamber’s month-long campaign to encourage more mentally healthy workplaces in South Australia.

The South Australian Business Chamber Chief Executive Martin Haese says that after discovering that three out of four business owners in South Australia experienced a mental health impact from the July lockdown, it is even more critical that we break down the stigma.

These difficult COVID times have seen an increase in mental health struggles; however, business owners have long felt the weight of the world on their shoulders.

Leaders themselves need to take steps to protect their mental health. It is like putting your oxygen mask on in a plane; you’ve got to do your own before you think about helping the person next to you.

The South Australian Business Chamber’s Mentally Healthy Business Breakfast will provide employers with practical tips and advice from experts on the signs and symptoms to look for with stress and burnout in staff as well as useful strategies to look after themselves.”

Aleda Wellbeing Director Brett Burton says that the impact of mental health issues has never been more significant, and our workplaces are no different.

We see the impact these mental health issues has on our workforce’s wellbeing, engagement, presenteeism, absenteeism, productivity and retention.

As business leaders, we need first to care for our wellbeing and then lead the care of our people’s wellbeing and help them thrive.

I’m looking forward to being part of the South Australian Business Chamber’s Biggest Mentally Healthy Business Breakfast and having these important conversations about wellbeing.”

The Breakfast will be hosted by former Channel 7 News presenter Jessica Adamson and features a panel of mental health experts and key speakers, including:
