Tomorrow, South Australia will wake to a state not seen in seven days.

No doubt businesses will be taking advantage of the 12.01am release from lockdown to prepare their businesses for reopening as of Wednesday morning.

The South Australian Business Chamber commends the State Government on swift action with releasing more than 2,500 emergency support payments of $3,000. This supports those businesses most in need particularly in hospitality, events and tourism who will need further support, amid reopening under 25 per cent capacity where they are unlikely to salvage any of the money lost over the last seven days.

The South Australian Business Chamber Chief Executive Martin Haese says: A tremendous effort from all South Australians has led us to the release from lockdown after seven days”.

It’s clear that this short, sharp lockdown has saved South Australia from a world of pain like we are seeing in New South Wales”.

For the business community, the mission is simple; it’s time to rebuild once again. Although we are only coming back from one week of lockdown, the confidence of businesses and their customers has been lost. We need to immediately address that.

The South Australian Business Chamber, as South Australia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will immediately be turning its attention to ensuring that businesses are able to return to a profitable trading conditions as soon as possible.

We don’t want to be subject to 1 per 4 or even 1 per 2 square meter capacities for a minute longer than needed because when businesses can’t trade freely, they can’t give staff enough hours”. said Mr Haese.

Small business is the major employer in South Australia and continued support for restricted operators is needed to help them see out the duration of this very long pandemic”.

The South Australian Business Chamber will be meeting with State Government later today to discuss a realistic roadmap out of restrictions, as well as additional support for businesses that remain closed or unable to effectively trade under the new restrictions.
