After advocating strongly for a wage subsidy for South Australian businesses crippled by coronavirus, the South Australian Business Chamber has welcomed last night’s historic passing of the Federal Government’s $130 billion JobKeeper package.
The peak industry body will now fast track a Webinar for business owners to help them access the scheme, to be held on Wednesday next week.
The South Australian Business Chamber CEO, Martin Haese said the new legislation will allow SA businesses to go into hibernation with hope of a strong recovery on the other side of COVID-19.
“Last night was a landmark moment in this crisis with hope now on the horizon for thousands of businesses across South Australia,” Mr Haese said.
“As the independent peak industry body for all SA businesses, we have been lobbying daily at the State level and through ACCI at the national level for immediate and practical measures to help businesses.
“We commend both sides of politics for ensuring this historic and vital legislation passed through Parliament today.
“The JobKeeper package will save SA businesses, there is no doubt about it.
“While we welcome today’s legislation, we know that there is still a high level of confusion in the business community around implementation of the scheme.
“Our Business Advisory Hotline has been inundated with calls from businesses seeking advice on the JobKeeper package on eligibility, timing and sole trader questions.
“This is why we have fast tracked our third Business Resilience Webinar, which will focus specifically on breaking down the JobKeeper package for businesses.”
The South Australian Business Chamber’s third Business Resilience Webinar, JobKeeper Package – let’s break it down for you will be held next Wednesday 15 April at 9:30am.
“The Webinar will provide business owners with a clear pathway for decision making when deciding whether to retain staff through JobKeeper payments or to consider alternative measures,” said Mr Haese.
“A panel of industry experts will discuss whether these payments are a viable option in terms of cashflow and how best to approach the re-hiring process.”
The free one-hour Webinar will also cover what employers should do if measures for business shut down have already taken place.
