The South Australian Business Chamber has welcomed the State Government’s announcement Stage 2 easing of COVID-19 restrictions will be brought forward to Friday 5 June.
The peak industry body for all businesses said it was a win for common sense with businesses across a range of industries set to benefit from the long weekend.
The South Australian Business Chamber CEO, Martin Haese said cafes, restaurants, retail stores and beauty salons would be among those who will be able to capitalise on the three-day weekend of trading.
“We thoroughly commend the Premier for listening to input from the South Australian Business Chamber and the broader business community to bring forward the start date for Stage 2 restrictions from the Queen’s Birthday public holiday on Monday 8 June back to Friday 5 June,” he said.
“This is a positive first step and a small win for SA businesses.”
Mr Haese also welcomed the announcement today that restaurants and cafes will be allowed up to 10 people indoors in addition to seated outdoor dining including alcohol service from this Friday.
“This easing of restrictions is welcomed by the South Australian Business Chamber who have been advocating for these changes and working closely with the hospitality sector and local Australian Hotels Association,” said Mr Haese.
“However, the South Australian Business Chamber knows there are still much bigger issues at play, particularly around the four-square metre rule which will restrict venues to operate at 25 per cent capacity.
“Bringing forward the start date for Stage 2 will however, provide businesses with some clarity that regardless of how many people they are allowed inside their venue, they can at least open their doors for the full long weekend.
“This is also a win for our regions and should encourage more intrastate travel over the long weekend, which will benefit businesses in some of our smaller towns.”
