The South Australian Business Chamber hosts industry virtual summit as Coronavirus weakens economy

Thursday, 2 April 2020

The South Australian Business Chamber will today lead a Virtual Summit with industry representatives from across the State in order to develop a coordinated COVID-19 action plan to ensure the survival of South Australian businesses.

The Virtual Summit will be held over two days this week and include more than 30 industry representatives representing thousands of local businesses.

The Virtual Summit will be a chance to gather feedback from CEO’s, Presidents and Chairs of industry organisations and business associations from a broad range of sectors including trade, food and beverage, retail, tourism, sport, professional services, government bodies and human services.

The South Australian Business Chamber CEO, Martin Haese said different sectors were being impacted in different ways by COVID-19 and the Virtual Summit would find out what is working and what isn’t in the current response to the pandemic.

As the independent and local peak body representing all businesses in South Australia, our mandate is to support as many businesses as possible through this, no matter what sector they are in,” Mr Haese said.

The Virtual Summit is all about bringing together a diverse group of leaders, looking for commonality in issues facing different sectors and then determining how we can work together across these broad areas to benefit the overall business community.

We’ll be listening to the impact of COVID-19 on specific sectors and canvassing ideas we can progress on behalf of all businesses in South Australia as we head into the rebuild phase of the COVID-19 crisis in the months ahead.

An unprecedented event of the scale of COVID-19 requires everyone working together to ensure South Australia’s economy can survive and ultimately thrive once we are on the other side.”

Mr Haese said an action plan and key recommendations from the Virtual Summit would be tabled at the Premier’s Industry Response and Recovery Council.

The South Australian Business Chamber’s Virtual Summit – Industry Response to COVID-19’ will be held in three groups over two days this week, with the first two groups kicking off this afternoon and the remaining group to be held on Thursday.
