The new standard in aged care was unveiled in Adelaide last week with the Federal Minister for Health and Aged Care Mark Butler officially opening Eldercare Goodwood – a $40 million high-tech, luxury site in the heart of cosmopolitan Goodwood already achieving national recognition.
Eldercare Goodwood showcases high-end finishes and first-class services, including a full-time concierge, baby grand piano in the foyer, gym, beauty salon, glass conservatory overlooking manicured gardens and curated artworks.
South Australian products and suppliers have been used wherever possible at this purpose-built 100-bed aged care residence, from furniture and artworks to the builders, engineers and architects that helped make this new home a reality.
Designed by architects Brown Falconer and built by Sarah Construction, Eldercare Goodwood is also setting new standards in sustainability as the first residential aged care facility in Australia to receive a 6‑Star Green Star Design Review rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.
Eldercare Goodwood’s quality fit-out is matched with quality care, with high-tech features and leading aged care building design facilitating the best resident care and wellbeing outcomes possible.
All rooms are fitted with voice-assist technology, smart TVs with family-connect capabilities, 4D-radar technology for fall-detection and alert notifications, and inbuilt ceiling mounted electronic track and hoist systems for the comfort and safety of residents and staff.
Adopting the small-household model of aged care, as recommended by the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, Eldercare Goodwood has four wings of 25 residential suites, clustered into six to seven suites for more personalised care.
Each residential wing is its own neighborhood and includes a large servery and central living and dining areas, with reading nooks and light-filled activity spaces for social connection. The wings have been named after prominent South Australian women Julia Gillard, Dame Roma Mitchell, Lucy Daw, Augusta Zadow, and Nancy Atkinson.
The Hon Mark Butler said “The Federal Government is committed to delivering the largest transformation in aged care in 30 years to meet the growing demand of over 500,000 older Australians seeking aged care every year.
“Eldercare Goodwood is adding 100 modern and well-designed aged care places to the sector and has invested in a fit-for-purpose site and innovative technology that enables staff to provide more personalised and direct support to older Australians, ensuring they receive the best care possible.
“Eldercare Goodwood is a leading example of how the sector can meet the evolving needs of our ageing population, and I congratulate all involved in making this exceptional site a reality.”
Eldercare Chief Executive Jane Pickering said “we are creating the benchmark for innovative, sustainable design and a model of care to support the care and wellbeing needs of a rapidly ageing cohort who expect to age well, remain connected to community and are environmentally aware.
“Our small-household model of aged care and state-of-the-art building design means our staff can work safely and comfortably, maximising direct time spent caring for our residents.”
Eldercare Goodwood welcomed its first residents on Monday.
